Google's highly-anticipated roundup of the year's top search words is here, and our country' results for 2018 are interesting, to say the least.
Unsurprisingly, the hefty prize for the local lottery produced the most-Googled news word this year—"lotto results." The rest of the top 10 were expected as well, some of which being DFA online appointments, SONA 2018, the TRAIN law, inflation, Typhoon Ompong and Mangkhit.
In lieu of the royal wedding, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle became the top-searched female personality in the Philippines, followed by Nancy of the viral K-pop girl group Momoland—another heavily-searched term that came in fourth place. The third spot went to American model Haley Baldwin, Justin Bieber's newlywed wife.
Meanwhile, the local celebrity that topped the list is Filipina singer-actress Kyline Alcantara who came in fifth. Actress Angel Aquino, volleyball player EJ Laura, and Miss Universe-Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray were also in the top ten.
It was definitely the year of Asian TV dramas, and the most-searched shows prove it. The 2018 remake of Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden was the most popular one this year, while the Chinese series A Love So Beautiful came in second. The only local show in the top five was ABS-CBN's Halik. The rest of the top 10 are K-dramas like The Korean Odyssey, What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, and Go Back Couple.
On the other hand, Western films like Bohemian Rhapsody, The Nun, Avengers Infinity War, and Black Panther dominated the search bars. The top events searches were all sports-related—the NBA playoffs, World Cup, the Pacquiao vs. Mattysse match, and more. However, Binibining Pilipinas did land 10th place!
