The recently concluded Miss Universe Philippines 2020 saw five candidates from different parts of the country come out as the top five winners, with Miss Iloilo Rabiya Mateo taking home the crown and officially representing the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2020 competition.
Aside from displaying elegance and beauty onstage, contenders also had to show off their own advocacies and know-how in social issues. Before becoming the queens that they are, these ladies were once college students just like us. And in case you're curious, here are the courses they took up in college:
Kimberly "Billie" Hakenson, 4th Runner-Up
Miss Cavite may not have won the pageant, but she certainly won everyone's hearts with her passion, especially during the Q&A portion. Billie is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and has been using her platform to uplift her advocacies. She graduated from St. Dominic College of Asia with a degree in Marketing Management.
Pauline Amelinckx, 3rd Runner-Up
Pauline, who is half-Pinay and half-Belgian, has been bagging awards even during the preliminaries. She won the Most Beautiful Face award and bested her fellow candidates. She represented her hometown Bohol during the pageant, but went to college at Cebu Doctors' University.
Michele Gumabao, 2nd Runner-Up
Prior to representing Quezon City at the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, Michele was already known for her volleyball career which began during her college days. She graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in Marketing Management.
Ysabella "Bella" Ysmael, 1st Runner-Up
Miss Paranaque Ysabella Ysmael was a strong contender for the crown and even won the "Best in Evening Gown" award in the preliminaries. Ysabella loves to dance ballet and is a mental health advocate. She went to De La Salle University for college where she took up Psychology.
