It's official: Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi is the new Miss Universe 2019!
Our own Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray passed on her title to the 26-year-old beauty queen at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta Georgia this December 9, 2019.
As response to the final Q&A portion regarding the most important thing young girls should learn today, Zozibini reiterated the the value of leadership. Read her full answer below:
"I think the most important thing we should be teaching young girls today is leadership. It's something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time not because they don't want to but because society labeled women to be. I think we are the most powerful being in the world and that we should be given every opportunity and that is what we should be teaching these young girls—to take up space. Nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself."
Miss Puerto Rico Madison Anderson and Miss Mexico Sofia Aragon came in as the the first and second runners-up respectively.
Zozibini is the third woman from South Africa to win the Miss Universe title. She follows Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters who won the Miss Universe crown in 2017. Congratulations, Zozibini!
