Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, was crowned Miss Universe 2017 today, November 27, 2017 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
After months of grueling preparations, the South African model bested 91 other candidates for the 66th Miss Universe pageant.
First runner-up was Miss Colombia, Laura Gonzalez Ospina, and second runner-up was Miss Jamaica, Davina Bennett.
Philippine bet, Rachel Peters, who was an early crowd favorite made it to the Top 10. Host Ashley Graham even raved about the beauty queen, telling her moments after the swimsuit portion, "I was always rooting for you!"
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach also returned, not as a contestant but as a judge for this year's Miss Universe. She joined Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam, makeup artist and TV host Jay Manuel, YouTube star Lele Pons, TV personality Ross Mathews, and host Megan Olivi as part of the panel of judges.
