As a wedding photographer, Mico Gonzales is used to witnessing a lot of couples say their "I do's" to one another. Alongside him is his paramour of 15 years, Ramcee Dela Cruz. As more reserved folk, they prefer to stay behind the camera; which is why for their own special day, the twosome decided to hold things at a more intimate and remote setting.

"Our one and only option was to do an elopement celebration [with] just the two of us plus a pastor," Mico tells Preview. "We are more comfortable to show our emotions in this kind of set up. No glam, no grand details; just the cool breeze, birds, mountains, and trees as [our witnesses]."

In the middle of a foggy afternoon last March 1, Mico and Ramcee climbed Mt. Kalugong in La Trinidad, Benguet for their dream elopment. With nothing but a pastor, their closest peers, and the pine trees surrounding them, it was a setting that Mico describes as "simple, it was authentic, it was beyond perfect."

Even if they wanted to keep things low-key, their attire was nothing short of memorable. Ramcee was able to acquire a ready-made cap-sleeved lace gown from Needle & Thread, and her makeup and hair were taken care of by Loreto Dacoroon of The Beauty Society. Mico, on the other hand, scoured for the best fabric and had Kat Carpio-Saberon and Mang Mar use it to craft his suit.

Their reception was as intimate as intimate can be. Bulb lights hanging from the trees illuminated their meal, care of Chef Jonathan Frias of Naimas Catering. A sushi platter from PH Niche of Happiness was also part of the spread. Of course, it wouldn't be a wedding without a cake, which was made for them by Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna in Baguio.

They set the table and chairs themselves, which were provided by Silyuuh. A small refrigerator, a coffee machine, ceramic and wooden plates, and all other decorations were all brought up from the foot of the mountain. Their friend, Iana Cris Forbes, prepared a personalized and handwrittem seating card for each guest.

A crucial component of any wedding are the invitations. The groom designed them himself, giving them a postcard-like look, and had Felize Hormillo of Fel & Ink Calligraphy produce them.

Now that the couple were in front of the lenses, they had their friends Aviegail Landicho, Louis Anthony Duran, Louie See, Michael Dela Cruz, and Aletheia De Guzman take care of capturing every moment.

Last but not least, their all-important wedding bands were provided by local jeweler J's Diamond. All of this was accomplished with help from their coordinator and close friend, Sammy Magsino.

Given the humble set-up they had, it only took two months for them to mount everything. All in all, the affair costed about P200,000 to get everything in place, which is relatively affordable compared to traditional nuptials.

For couples out there who might be enticed from Mico and Ramcee's DIY project, their biggest advice is to talk it out with one another. "Me and my wife decided to go with this kind of celebration based on our personalities. We advise to match your wedding [with your] own character and taste. Just because a lot of people are doing grand weddings doesn't mean that you will follow the trend."
