Michelle Dee is following her family's beauty queen path. Like her mom, Melanie Marquez (who won Miss International 1979) and cousin, Winwyn Marquez (who was Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2017), the 24-year-old is set to compete on the global stage after winning the Miss World Philippines 2019 title at the coronation night held at the Smart Araneta coliseum, where she bested 39 other candidates.
Early on the pageant, Michelle proved to be one of its strong contenders after bagging several special awards including Miss Bench, Miss Myra E, Miss Blue Water Spa, Miss GCOX, Miss Best Skin (by Cathy Valencia), and was also awarded as FILA Sportswoman. She was also eloquent in answering the question-and-answer portion.
When asked what invention from the last century should make a comeback, the newly-crowned beauty queen said polaroids should see a revival in the age of digital technology. "I am an avid lover of art, I love photography, and I love the kind of energy and feel polaroids can make," she explained.
"Just being able to lay everything out and to go through or go down memory lane is such a different feeling," Michelle added.
Further, it's not just Michelle who bagged awards that night. Five other beauty queens were crowned to compete in their respective international competitions. See the full list of winners below:
- Miss Eco Teen Philippines 2019 Vanessa Mae Walters
- Miss Tourism Philippines 2019 Glyssa Leiann Perez
- Miss Multinational Philippines 2019 Isabelle de Leon
- Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas 2019 Katrina Llegado
- Miss Eco Philippines 2019 Kelley Day
Meanwhile, Cassie Banks was hailed as the 1st Princess and Shanon Christies Kerver was crowned as the 2nd Princess. They both succeed Michelle Dee to the Miss World Philippines 2019 title. Michelle will represent the country on the scheduled pageant on December 14 in ExCel, London.
