Anyone who has seen Michelle Dee in Miss Universe Philippines coronation night is surely captured by her regal looks and commanding stage presence. The 27-year-old representative of Makati holds her own on the catwalk in the most natural way possible, garnering her the Best in Evening Gown award, and later on, the title of the new Miss Universe Philippines-Tourism.
With that said, it comes as no surprise to us when we learned that she’s the daughter of former beauty queen-turned-actress Melanie Marquez. Her prowess can easily be traced back to her mom, who was as stunning as her during her pageantry days. Like mother, like daughter indeed, and it rings true especially within the realm of beauty. Fun fact: Melanie made history in 1979 when she was crowned Miss International, giving the country its third win for the title, while also being the youngest winner in history at the age of 15.
In an interview, Michelle revealed that she didn’t tell her mom right away about her plans on joining her first pageant which is Miss World. She even only heard about it on the news! However, Melanie was certainly the proudest when her daughter bagged the crown.
As for the best "beauty queen tip" her mom told her, Michelle shared, “The most important advice my mom gave me was to be myself. I’m not trying to be a replicate of her but I’m trying to shine as my own woman. And that taught me how to be strong, how to be confident in myself and to embrace every single part of my being. So thank you, mom.”
Congratulations, Michelle! So well-deserved.
