What do you get when you combine a chord progression with relationship problems? For Pinoy band Mayonnaise, these are what make a song memorable. Songwriter and frontman Monty Macalino walks us through the inspiration behind the track “Tayo Na Lang Dalawa," which came soon after their massive hit “Jopay.”
Not long after, the band had established a formula—loud guitar, loud drums—and sought to channel their energies to come up with a song that expressed themes of confusion, longing, and pain. Even the music video was inspired by those of Deftones, an American metal band from the 80s and one of Macalino’s favorites. It is no doubt that a mixture of influence and true emotions made this love song a true hit!
In this episode of OG's OPM series, Mayonnaise shares the real story behind “Tayo Na Lang Dalawa" and the music process that made it the classic heartbreak song we sing along to until today.
