Julia Barretto is finally back on the big screen with her newest film Expensive Candy. We've seen her embody a wide variety of roles with her two decade-long filmography, but her latest offering is undoubtedly her most daring one yet. In the JP Laxamana-helmed movie, Julia plays a sex worker who gets into a complicated relationship with Carlo Aquino's character named Toto.

Quite notably, this is the 25-year-old's maiden foray into the "sexy" movie genre, and it's also one of the first works of hers to get an R-13 classification from the MTRCB. Despite being a departure from her usual "it girl" image, Julia still took the project head on—but not without the go signal from her mom Marjorie Barretto.
During the pre-screening of the movie last September 5, Marjorie spoke to members of the media and shared that she was all for Julia accepting the role. "I read the script of Expensive Candy and I approved it," she said, "You raise your kids and you just wish that they are wise enough to make decisions. Julia is 25 years old. I trust her."

While seeing her daughter in a more racy light will take some getting used to, the celeb mom believes that it's only an indication of Julia's maturing. "This is a grown-up Julia. But I’m sure this is a better version of her definitely. She really worked so hard for this project." Aww!
To witness this new side of Julia yourself, make sure to catch Expensive Candy in cinemas, showing now.
