"My home is messy, but the way I am spending my time is the right way for me at this stage of my life," she said.

For what it's worth, Marie Kondo's lessons on creating a cleaner, neater home are as relevant as ever. Letting go of everything that didn't spark joy anymore became a cultural phenomenon. But these days, she's said to have embraced a different kind of joy: the mess. This comes after the birth of her son.

The 38-year-old mother of three gave birth to her youngest in 2021, and suffice to say, she's sort of had to embrace the mess. "My home is messy, but the way I am spending my time is the right way for me at this time at this stage of my life," Kondo said, via an interpreter, in a report by The Washington Post.

She added: "Up until now, I was a professional tidier, so I did my best to keep my home tidy at all times... I have kind of given up on that in a good way for me. Now I realize what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children at home."

Kondo, who published The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up in the United States back in 2014, rose to prominence as a key figure in championing the principles of Japanese minimalism. The book would sit atop the New York Times Best Seller list in the same year. Her prominence would birth two Netflix series, as well.

Today, she's encouraging her readers and fans to create their own rhythm. The Japanese consultant even has a new assignment for all of us: to curate a doable joy routine and stick with it for ten days.
