Described as a “fusion between two worlds, where the sublime mangroves meet the majestic ocean,” Maison Bukana is a private villa located in a tiny strip of land at Siargao Island, a few steps away from Malinao Beach. 

The beachfront property was built and established in 2021 by Christophe Bariou, serving as a combination of his heritage from the name itself–“Maison” is the French word for “house,” while “bukana” meant “threshold” in Filipino, denoting the nearby divide between the river and the sea.

How Is Maison Bukana Sustainable?

The private luxury villa prides itself on its sustainable practices from its “green construction material” down to personal care products, which, they say, speaks to its anti-greenwashing stance.

The villa’s design and structure prioritized green equipment and materials, “neutralizing” more than six tons of single-use plastic waste that would’ve ended up in island dumpsites. Alongside this, Maison Bukana’s menu uses organic products that are available on the island, while they rely 100 percent on rainwater to service their guests and to fill their natural stone pool.

What Are the Accommodations in Maison Bukana?

Tucked away in the serene locale, the cozy accommodation includes four separate bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen with an oven and toaster, and four bathrooms. 

Guests can unwind by a charming natural stone pool shaded by swaying coconut palm trees. A welcoming bar offers a thoughtfully curated array of beverages, while a contemporary kitchen, overseen by a dedicated chef, caters to the island’s culinary side. The open and well-lit communal living area also provides ample space for relaxation with the sea views of Siargao.

Drawing inspiration from French “Bistrot” cuisine, the establishment's menu blends flavors to spotlight the island's organic bounty while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability.

Guests are also invited to explore a carefully chosen assortment of premium teas and meticulously slow-roasted coffees, each sourced from ethical producers working in small, dedicated batches across the Philippines.

Patrons are also presented with an array of premium spirits and locally crafted beers, alongside the resort’s signature cocktails, concocted by a world-class mixologist. 

Wine Cellar

Drawing inspiration from the esteemed French “Maison de Vin” (Wine House) tradition, Maison Bukana also invites guests to immerse in another integral part of France's cultural heritage: its wines. The villa presents an array of reds, whites, and Champagnes meticulously stored in the establishment’s cellars.

What Are Activities You Can Do in and Around Maison Bukana?

Maison Bukana is available to arrange experiences for immersion in Siargao’s island life, including island hopping, surf packages, wake park, water activities, island tours, and kite surfing. 

Inside the resort, the place also offers private yoga classes and massages. Throughout the day, guests can choose slow-pressed juices and healthy smoothies in their bar.

How Much Does It Cost to Stay at Maison Bukana?

Guests are required to stay for a minimum of two nights, with the experience tailor-made for up to eight guests sharing four suites, with an accommodation of up to 12 guests. Rates may vary depending on the date, but websites like Booking.com list a one-night stay at P122,000, while Airbnb lists it for P85,000 a night.
