Turning 18 marks a young girl’s transition as she finally blossoms into a fine lady. And while others prefer to look and feel like a princess on this special occasion, Liza Soberano wanted nothing grand. Her only request? To celebrate it with her loved ones.
Surprising the Forevermore actress a day before her 18th birthday, her family and friends threw her a Bohemian-themed debut at Club Balai Isabel Hotel in Batangas yesterday, January 3. Style Bible had a quick chat with the Forevermore star’s go-to makeup artist, Mickey See, and he revealed to us all the juicy details about this intimate event and what Liza really wanted for her birthday. Read all about it below.
Please tell us about Liza’s 18th birthday celebration. How did you guys plan it for her?
It was really Tita Joni, her guardian here, who planned everything. It’s been planned a long time ago. Initially, we were supposed to go to Paris for her debut but it did not push through given her tight schedule. Instead, we just had this intimate party since Liza didn’t want anything grand. She didn’t want a typical debut to celebrate her birthday. She wanted a “chill” party that won’t take too much effort—no gown, no cotillion, etc. She’s the kind of girl who’d rather spend her money on more important things, like on their house.
She had no grand celebration in mind, but it was her fans, friend, and family who wanted to throw her a surprise party. She thought it was just a simple get-together. There were several surprises planned, but the highlight was her siblings who even flew in from the US.

So who else celebrated with Liza?
There were a few fans, her high school friends, others from Star Magic, and some close relatives. Not that many, perhaps about a hundred guests.
We stayed there overnight, actually. We even had a game of amazing race in the morning. It was a different kind of party because everyone bonded and interacted. It’s not like the usual debut that we're all used to.
Why Bohemian-themed?
Because that’s who she is. She’s not your typical modern woman. Even when we do photo shoots, she prefers old, classic looks.
How did her glam team doll her up for the party?
Styled by Perry Tabora
For the clothes, she was styled by Perry. Just something she’d be comfortable in since Liza is not the usual girly girl, and Bohemian is one of the looks that she likes. She’s not obsessed with pink; she’s not that. Her style is more comfy and relaxed.

As for her makeup, I did what she wanted. I told her that since it’s her debut, it’s her call. She wanted a sheen, glowing look without using too much foundation. She said, “I don’t want pink. I don’t want lashes. I don’t want brows. I want to look like the real me.” (Laughs) Actually, I only used tinted moisturizer on her, a bit of eye shadow, and then liquid-based lipstick that she won’t have to keep retouching all night. Then for her hair, we just opted for waterfall braids.
