5 Light K-Dramas to Watch If You're Feeling Stressed Out
In case you need something to distract you.

On days when everything feels like a mess, I always turn to K-dramas (and my first love, K-pop) for a serotonin boost. They're a great distraction to help me forget my 99 problems for a while and once I'm fully immersed in a series, I start looking forward to better days ahead. I don't know what magic potion they add in each episode, but K-dramas tend to have an emotional connection with me and I'm here for it.

In the past years, there are a lot of shows that have topped my list of all-time favorites and some of them are the ones that are easy to watch. I don't have to come up with theories to connect the dots or stare into space because a scene was too heavy for wordsin short, they're just truly feel-good shows.

If you're feeling stressed out right now, here are six K-dramas that are guaranteed to cheer you up:

1. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (2021)

Who's in it: Shin Min Ah, Kim Seon Ho, Lee Sang Yi

Where you can watch it: Netflix

When Yoon Hye Jin moved to the village of Gongjin to start anew, she meets a jack-of-all-trades named Hong Doo Shik. Thanks to him, she gets to adjust to the neighborhood, have fun by the sea, and realize the important things in life in between. Experience what it's like to live in the countryside in this healing drama that highlights family, friendships, and the kind of love that can surpass anything. The OST will make you feel good, too, and you'll be singing "Romantic Sunday" in no time!

2. True Beauty (2020)

Who's in it: Cha Eun Woo, Moon Ga Young, Hwang In Yeop, Park Yoo Na

Where you can watch it: Viu

This webtoon-based drama is all about loving yourself in a world where beauty has a standard. High school student Im Ju Kyung has always been conscious of her looks and was bullied by her classmates because of her appearance. She feels the most empowered when she wears makeup and it helps her become more sociable with others—including Lee Suho and Han Seojun who loves her as she is. True Beauty will truly give you the butterflies with its kilig scenes (it's the type where you'll be kicking your feet in the air) and make you laugh with the characters' antics (everyone is just downright funny!).

3. Hospital Playlist (2020, 2021)

Who's in it: Jo Jung Suk, Yoo Yeon Seok, Jung Kyung Ho, Kim Dae Myung, Jeon Mi Do

Where you can watch it: Netflix

Ask any K-drama fan about their favorite medical series and you'll probably get Hospital Playlist as an answer. What I love about this drama is how it shows what's happening inside emergency rooms, without skipping the raw and touching backstories of the patients and doctors. There's also the loveable '99s squad—the barkada we all want to be a part of. They've been friends since med school until now that they're residents in a hospital, and have gone through the best and worst moments together. The best life lesson I've learned from Hospital Playlist: Value the importance of rest and always allot time for yourself.

4. Our Beloved Summer (2021)

Who's in it: Choi Woo Shik, Kim Da Mi, Kim Sung Cheol

Where you can watch it: Netflix

Probably my favorite drama about enemies who have turned into lovers, Our Beloved Summer is a romantic story that follows the lives of Kook Yeonsu and Choi Woong. In high school, there was never a day that they didn't fight became but they soon became more open to each other and started dating. However, they had to break up because life happened. Years later, they reunited because of their viral documentary but not without the constant bickering. Apart from the realistic characters, Our Beloved Summer's stunning and relaxing cinematography is something that you should look forward to.

5. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (2016)

Who's in it: Lee Sung Kyung, Nam Joo Hyuk, Lee Joo Young

Where you can watch it: Netflix and Viu

There's no wonder Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo was a crowd favorite in 2016. It has everything that a lighthearted K-drama has: The soft hues in every scene, the OST that's perfect to listen to in the morning, the chaotic friendships, and the romantic story of Kim Bok Joo and Jung Joon Hyung (ICYDK, the main leads dated IRL!). Whether you're an aspiring athlete or someone who hasn't discovered what she wants in life yet, you'll appreciate this coming-of-age sports drama. It highlights how your biggest dreams are always worth the wait and the people who were there in the process are those that you should keep.
