Some good news for Gossip Girl fans: Upper East Side’s resident Queen B a.k.a. Leighton Meester herself is back in New York City. But this time around, it’s not for Blair Waldorf but for a cameo role on the American sitcom How I Met Your Father.
The actress, who turns 36 this year, stars as Meredith, the lead character Jesse's ex-girlfriend who turns down his proposal. Leighton's character would then go on to Europe to record an album; but fret not, because we’ll likely see more of her with sources confirming that she's slated to appear throughout the show’s first season.
That said, if you're expecting headbands and tweed jackets a la Blair Waldorf, we hate to burst your bubble but you're not seeing any of those on Leighton this time. But ICYDK, her HIMYF character is actually more identical to Leighton’s personality IRL! Fun fact: She's a recording artist too, and has also posted several song covers on YouTube!
How I Met Your Mother’s sequel gender flips the plot of the original series as its main character Sophie, played by Hillary Duff, tells her son about the story of how she met his dad. The plot is set in the year 2022, where Sophie is joined by her close-knit friends in the process of figuring out their true identities and navigating complicated relationships.
Leighton is not the only iconic 2000s star to be casted for the spinoff series. Kim Cattrall, who recently faced controversy after refusing to reprise her iconic Samantha Jones role in the Sex and The City reboot, also joins the cast as the older version of Hillary’s character.
