Kuwaiti social media star and makeup artist Sondos Alqattan is receiving backlash for criticizing an OFW protection deal between the Philippines and Kuwait. The deal merits workers one day off per week and the right to cook their own food. It also prohibits employers to confiscate their employee's passport and abuse them physically.
According to Turkish news channel TRT World, Sondos' now-deleted Twitter video showed the social media star declaring that she would no longer be employing a Filipino worker because of the aforementioned agreement.
She was quoted to have said, "How can you have a 'servant' in your house who gets to keep their passport with them? If they ran away and went back to their country, who will refund me?" She reportedly also expressed her disagreement toward giving the workers a day off. "I don't want a Filipino maid anymore."
Her statement quickly went viral, and Sondos has since been receiving backlash on social media. Sondos recently posted a new set of photos on Instagram, in which she has 2.3 million followers, but she has yet to respond to the issue.
