Fashion designer Paul Cabral may have taken the APEC delegates out of last year’s sci-fi fashion scenario but Cebu native Kenneth Cobonpue sends them right back to the intergalactic universe as he spearheads the creative aspect of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Welcome Dinner held at the MOA Arena.
With rice terraces as his inspiration for the set design, Kenneth creates an oasis for the 21 delegates right in the middle of the huge arena. “I wanted to transform the whole space into a huge outdoor garden,” he says, describing the grassy, circular stage set up with colorful anahaw leaf-inspired swags dangling from the celling.
But aside from the impressive stage he’s beautifully created, he also created buzz-worthy chairs for the world leaders to lounge on. Giving his famous Yoda chair design a slight upgrade, he adds armrests and wheels to the rattan seat originally inspired by blades of grass
We certainly wouldn’t mind sitting on these while we bust our asses off at the office.
