While some proudly display their scars as a show of one's strength after having survived a grueling, often traumatic experience, veteran tattoo artist Jo Harrison celebrates one's survival in a different way: tattoo art. A common practice for tattoo artists, Jo has been painting over scars for survivors of different kinds, from suicide attempt scars, to abuse, to those who've undergone surgery. "It's a memento for them of how strong they have been through some sort of adversity," Jo explains in an interview with Insider. Jo says that it's her clients way of healing from their past trauma, and she's more than happy and honored to be a part of their process through her work. "People are reclaiming their body. They're reclaiming a part of themselves that were lost."
