Back in 2016, Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola made headlines when their relationship was made public in June of that year. Luis had been in a high-profile relationship with Angel Locsin prior to Jessy with their breakup surfacing in January 2016. Jessy was then labeled by the public as a "boyfriend-stealer" (which she and Luis had repeatedly denied) and was endlessly pitted against Angel when the whole issue blew up.
Now in 2021, all of them have moved on with their respective partners—with Jessy and Luis getting married in February, and Angel with Neil Arce who'd revealed they'd been wed in a civil ceremony over their weekend. But it seems that some netizens are not over Jessy and Angel's past. In the comments section of Jessy's Insta post on August 7, a basher nastily compared Jessy to Angel and even fat-shamed Angel by calling her "tabachoy."
Jessy replied to the comment and calmly called them out by saying, "Please tama na yung ganyan. We are all happy na. Peace and love lang please." She then went on to redirect the topic to a more pressing issue, the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) that's been implemented in several provinces including Metro Manila: "Ingat ngayong ECQ."
One of the last times Jessy commented about the issue was in 2019 when a netizen urged her to admit that she had "stolen" Luis from Angel: "Bakit ako aamin ng hindi totoo? Yung mga basher, hindi nila alam ang totoong nangyari. Bakit ako aamin, para lang tumigil sila? Para lang matahimik sila? Ang basher kahit ano’ng sabihin mo, hindi nila tatanggapin 'yun. Ilang beses ko nang sinagot sa mga interview noon ang nangyari, pero naniwala ba sila? Hindi. Kaya dapat ipasa-Diyos na lang 'yan, nakikita naman niya ang lahat. Good vibes lang, let go mo na 'yang issue na 'yan. Happy na kaming lahat."
