Almost everyone familiar with Philippine entertainment would know that Janine Gutierrez comes from showbiz royalty on both sides of her family. Her parents are, of course, veteran actors Lotlot de Leon and Monching Gutierrez, and all four of her grandparents are showbiz icons: on her mom's side are Nora Aunor and Christoper de Leon, and on her dad's side are Pilita Corrales and Eddie Gutierrez. Janine also has aunts, uncles, and cousins that are also in the 'biz!
But unknown to most, the 32-year-old ABS-CBN actress actually resented coming from such a well-known family. On Instagram, Janine shared two pics with her famous clan, the first being a throwback photo from her childhood and the second taken more recently. She started her caption likening herself to The Princess Diaries' Mia Thermopolis, an American teen who finds out she's actually a princess of the fictional country Genovia. "If you remember that transformation scene in Princess Diaries, super relate," she writes.
Janine then went on to say that she found out that her family was famous when she was in Grade 2. "But unlike Mia, I kinda knew my grandparents and relatives were showbiz royalty (I found out through my Grade 2 Sibika book—sa Sining chapter kasi andun si Mamita at Mama Guy) Tapos nung high school naman ang daming nanghihingi ng studio pic ni @richardgutz."
"I really never expected to end up in the same industry," she continued. "I used to resent it 'cause my parents' schedules were so unpredictable when I was growing up and I was also super shy but here we are! Lesson is never say never!"
She closed her caption by thanking her family for giving her the opportunity to grow in the same industry as them: "Anyway, dami kong chika, ang point ko lang naman is—swipe for the grow up/glow up. Hi fam!! Thank you for the inspiration, hard work, and for opening doors for us. So grateful for you."
Janine is currently starring in her first primetime series with ABS-CBN, Marry Me, Marry You, alongside Paulo Avelino.
