This confusing pose can be traced back to Russian Instagrammers, who have apparently been challenging each other to lay on the ground face first in front of their private jets and luxury rides.

While there's no clear context as to how this Insta challenge came to be, playing dead in photos isn't new. In fact, fashion brands like Victoria Beckham, Jimmy Choo, and Marc Jacobs have long used this concept for their campaigns in the past.
