In Instagram’s latest update, the photo-sharing app we’ve come to know and love recently rolled out a new feature called “Stories,” which allows you to share instant moments with all of your best friends and followers on the app.
How does it work? You will see a bar at the very top of your feed the minute you open the app, featuring the most recent stories posted by anybody you are following. This can vary from your best friends to some of your favorite celebrity accounts. You also have complete control over who you can share all your stories with. And like Instagram’s direct message feature, all the messages or replies made to your stories will be in private.
You can take as many photos or videos as you want, and in addition to text, there are drawing tools and filters to add more life to the stories you share. Plus, your stories are available for your friends or followers’ viewing pleasure for 24 hours only.
With all these notes behind the latest feature, it isn’t surprising that many are accusing the photo sharing app of ripping a page directly out of Snapchat’s playbook. After all, we can't deny the fact that Snapchat is indeed the pioneer of instantly sharing real moments.
At this point, everything still appears to be fresh. Only time can tell if Snapchat will remain on top or if Instagram will step up and show a more serious game in photo and video sharing. But what do you think—will you have a spin at Instagram’s newest feature, or will you continue standing by Snapchat?
