If you've grown tired of using a plain white wall as your OOTD default background and want to try something else a little more "busy" or "lively", but haven't really gotten the hang of shooting yourself against your new fun BG, here are a few tips that'll get you adjusted. Because patterns and bursts of color, landscapes, textures, and live props have got angles of their own.
Against a busy floor pattern:
Going to higher ground has its advantages: You get to fully capture in one photo what is above and below the subject— and all that’s in between.
If you match your wall of choice:
The more we are one with the background of our image, the more we are one with the universe—that is, the divine fashion balance.
With a live animal:
Hollow spaces can frame clever poses. Remember that the set of your photo doesn’t have to stay behind you, it can be in the foreground, too.
Against something architectural:
Pit your small self against a massive architectural backdrop for a dramatic contrast in proportion. Pick a striking shade to wear while you’re at it.
