Poised to become the biggest IKEA branch in the world, construction of the much-awaited outpost is slowly pushing through amid delays caused by COVID-19. ICYMI, the Swedish furniture brand has taken residence at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, and will span over 65,000 square meters with at least 9000 products in its inventory. It’s also set to hire 500 employees in the country to operate the branch.

According to Georg Platzer, IKEA’s Southeast Asia development manager, impatient onlookers can expect the store to open later this year. “Everything is going according to plan. We have a plan of opening on Q3 or Q4 this year, starting first with e-commerce and then opening the store later,” he elaborated in an interview with media. Shoppers may now visit the said e-commerce website, however an online shopping feature is yet to be added.
Apart from purchasing home essentials, visitors can also expect to dine at their in-house restaurant. Additionally, IKEA Philippines will also offer fabric customization services on-site, in collaboration with homegrown Filipino brand Rags2Riches. You can read more about their partnership here.
