We all know Hwang In Youp best for his scene-stealing portrayal of Han Seo-jun in True Beauty. But before the romance series catapulted In Youp’s name to fame, this rising heartthrob and BYS ambassador first built his career starring in two web shows, and landing supporting gigs in other popular Korean dramas. Haven’t caught up with them yet? We’re way ahead of you.

1. W.H.Y. (2018)

When his girlfriend dumps him on their 100th day anniversary, Cha Yeon-woo is left confused with a broken heart. To cheer him up, his friends take him on a trip to Jeju Island where they meet two girls who help him move on from his breakup.

2. Freshman (2019)

3. The Tale of Nokdu (2019)

Jeon Nokdu, a brilliant swordsman, lives a peaceful life with his father and older brother on an island during the Joseon dynasty. The drama kicks off when their status quo is disturbed by a group of female assassins targeting his family for unknown reasons. In attempt to uncover the group's motive, Nokdu chases after one of their assailants into a widowed village where he diguises himself as a woman.

The Tale of Nokdu serves as In Youp's official small screen debut. Here, he takes on the role of Park Dan-ho,  a swordsman, assassin, and the right-hand man of Cha Yool-moo.

4. 18 Again (2020)

Despite getting pregnant early, Hong Dae-young and Jung Da-jung live a happy life amidst the struggles of being young parents to twins. 18 years later, Da-jung files for a divorce after being unable to put up with her husband’s growing unpleasant behavior any longer. Now dealing with unemployment and his wife leaving him, Dae-young begins to look back at his past in regret, wishing to relive his glory days in high school. Soon after, he mysteriously wakes up in his 18-year-old body in the present day, as he gets his second chance to live out his life. 

A supporting character in the show, In Youp plays Goo Ja-sung, a basketball player and his school's resident bully. His aggressive demeanor eventually takes a back seat when he develops genuine feelings for Dae-young's daughter, Hong Shi-ah.

5. True Beauty (2020)

After mastering the art of makeup from YouTube, Lim Ju-gyeong becomes a goddess overnight, revered by her peers for her looks. Despite her rise to popularity in school, Ju-gyeong’s greatest fear comes true when her handsome and popular classmate, Lee Su-ho, recognizes her without makeup on. Will he be able to accept the real her—flaws, pimple marks, and all?

A verified scene-stealer in the series, In Youp portrays Han Seo-jun, a "bad boy" with a soft heart, and Su-ho's former best friend who takes a romantic interest in Ju-gyeong as well. Causing yet another wave of second lead syndrome, In Youp rose to international prominence thanks to True Beauty.

6. The Sound of Magic (Coming Soon)

This musical fantasy drama is based on a popular Naver webtoon titled Annarasumanara. At its heart is Yoon Ah-yi, a hardworking student struggling to make ends meet after both her parents left her and her younger sister. Her tedious life takes a turn for the whimsical when she meets Lee Eul, a mysterious performer who makes her believe in magic.


Meanwhile, In Youp steps into the shoes of Na Il-deung, Ah-yi’s rival at school. The two are always competing for the top grade, that is, until their fierce rivalry blooms into something more.

7. Why Her? (Coming Soon)

Oh Soo-jae is the youngest partner at TK Law Firm, one of Korea’s top law offices. Though she’s feisty and driven, all her hard work comes crashing down when a mishap in a case she’s handling leads to her demotion. Intent on recovering her reputation, Soo-jae ends up teaching at a local law school where she meets Gong Chan (In Youp), a college student who becomes her support system as she deals with her fall from grace.
