Temperatures are rising. Our sunnies are at the ready, and so is our inner hubadera. It's safe to say that summer is finally upon us, and aside from curating that humid weather-friendly wardrobe, you're also probably planning that beach trip with your family or friends. Well, as fellow Insta-hoes like you, we're sure you'll be obsessing over taking nothing but the best photos by the beach. Based on experience, it can get a little tricky, especially if you aren't comfortable with posing on your own.
Thankfully, we've got local vlogger and beach babe Rei Germar to provide us with some inspo that can help out even the most photo-averse person in your group. You'll be snapping double-tap-worthy solo pics and group shots in no time!
Face the sunlight
Taking photos in the natural sunlight is most flattering, but you can also play around with the shadows the light creates to add more depth and dimension to your photos. In the posts above, Rei literally basks in the sunlight to highlight her tanned skin as well as to create a moodier vibe.
If you aren't so keen on posing standing up or maybe you're trying to hide that food baby, then you could simply sit by the shore and pose as if you were just chilling. The key to getting a great shot though is to lean back and lengthen your legs so as to look leaner, longer, and taller. What's so great about this super easy to do pose is that whether it's taken from a top angle or a lower one, you're sure to look fantastic!
For a standout solo pic, take it from a lower angle
Admit it: You take photos by the beach (or in any destination for that matter) in the hopes of scoring a profile pic-worthy one. If you aren't sure where to begin, might we suggest taking a close-up shot with the sunny sky as your background? We love how it's different from typical by-the-beach photos, but the trick to acing it is to take it from a lower angle to make you look really powerful. Just pose as if you were the queen bee of the sea!
Flaunt your backside
If you're the kind who feels a little uncomfortable posing in front of the camera, or if you want to try something different for a change, you could opt for a photo flaunting your backside. It requires less effort on your end because all you have to do is put your hands on your hips and look away, or do something fun like raising your arms and doing the peace sign. This pose is also great for those who want to show off their back tattoos!
Kneel by the shore
Here's another easy breezy pose that anyone can achieve. Kneel by the shore and have fun 'posing' so that your IG bestie can take 'candid photos' of you! However, if you want to take 'fierce' shots, why don't you try the hottest pose that every celebrity is doing right now? We're calling it the 'bikini lift' pose, and all you have to do is pretend to adjust your bikini bottom. Rei totally nailed it in the photo above!
Chill on the chaise lounge
You've probably taken Instagram stories from a chaise lounge whilst reading a book or sipping on some cocktails. Well, why don't you turn the camera around and pose for the 'gram instead! You could still clutch that new beach read or flaunt that fruity drink like an accessory, or you could go all-out and 'awra' away! Capture it from a top angle, as seen above, or from afar to get the beach landscape in the photo.
Don't disregard the outdoor shower area
Looking for a photo concept that makes it appear like you didn't try at all when in fact you kinda did? Our bet is on the 'shower area' pose. It doesn't look as thought-out as a beachfront pic but it's still got cool elements that make it worth your effort, like the lush foliage and wooden fixtures. Plus, if you run out of pose ideas, just act like you're literally taking a shower, stick one leg out, and point your toes to make you look taller.
Consider other areas like the bar
We're sure you've booked an Instagrammable place for your beach trip, so you might as well maximize every cute spot at the resort, like say, that tropical beachside bar or surf hut. We like how Rei struck a 'candid pose' by this tiki-themed bar which totally let her neon bikini stand out. Yes, matching your swimsuit to the background is a thing.
Any photo with your besties is IG-worthy
If you and your friends had too much fun hanging out that you almost forgot to take a group photo (we kinda doubt this though), then take the easy route by copping this idea from Rei and her girl gang. Take a photo from a top angle as you and your besties are lying down in matching bikinis—yup, consider color-coordinating your swimsuits. We love this sunny-hued palette that Rei and her friends chose!
