When you're bored in the house and in the house bored, where else do you go on the world wide web? Aside from lurking on Twitter to stay on top of news or drowning in funny TikTok videos, you've probably been on Instagram and seen a bunch of IG Story filters made by random users. You've got ones that give you faux freckles, a fancy butterfly crown, and even fancy pink dollar signs. When you check the creators of these really cool filters, you'll be surprised to find out that majority of them are just regular Instagram users and content creators. Which then makes you wonder, how do they make their own IG filters?
Well, thanks to Google and YouTube, we found out that people use a certain software to bring their own filters to life: the Spark AR Studio. Spark AR Studio is a software for augmented reality created by Facebook especially built for making 3D filters for Facebook and Instagram stories.
The good news is that anyone can access and download the software to make their own filters. The catch is, if you're not really a tech-savvy person, it might take you a while to get the hang of the program. In a way, it's pretty similar to Photoshop because it involves a lot of the same features (like layers) and operates in a relatively similar fashion.
If you are not intimidated by the thought of Photoshop, great! Because you're actually going to need to use it, or any other similar programs, to design how your filter would look like. It might sound daunting at first, but it's something you can easilt get the hang of with a little patience! Here's a detailed step-by-step tutorial to help you get started:
