You shouldn’t miss these treats!

Macao is a melting pot of religion, culture, and architectural sites, but the most interesting part about this east and west fusion is its cuisine. As we flew to Macao with Air Asia Philippines, we scoured each nook and cranny of the old Portuguese colony for the most delectable dishes. Scroll down to start your food coma!

1. Portuguese-style egg tarts

One cannot simply visit Macao and not have a box (or two) of this yummy dessert! Flaky pie crust hugs a filling of creamy custard, burnt just right for a caramelized surface. In about every street in Macao, you can find a stall selling their famous dessert, but for the original, head on to Lord Stow’s at Coloane village.

2. Almond cookies

One of Macao’s traditional snacks is the famed almond cookies. These light and crumbly snack is perfect with a cup of iced nai cha or coffee as you stroll the sleepy streets of Macao. Choose from walnuts, cashews, and even pork floss! Koi Kei Bakery offers the best ones in town!

3. Jerky

Macanese jerky is a delicacy you shouldn’t miss out on during your visit. These strips of preserved beef or pork will leave you wanting more. An explosion of flavors will fill your mouth, you won’t even notice you’ve already eaten half of your pasalubong! Take a trip to Senado Square and explore which store will satisfy your tastebuds.

4. Pork chop buns

Tai Lei Loi Kei offers the most mouth-watering pork chop buns in town! Sink your teeth into crisp mantou sandwiching a succulent, juicy, and tender pork chop slice. Flock to Taipa Village to get your fill!

5. Almond pastries

If crepes are your thing, you’re sure to find love in their almond egg rolls. Batter filled with sweetened almonds is enveloped into a crepe-like pastry and folded into bite-sized squares. Mind you, this treat can be addicting! Koi Kei Bakery offers the best, in my opinion, and they’re freshly made right in front of you!
