Potterheads, looks like we’ve got ourselves a huge reason to save up for the new PlayStation 5. You guessed it—a new Harry Potter game is currently in the works for the gaming console, and you can bet we’ve got our wands (and wallets) at the ready.
Slated for 2021 and officially titled Hogwarts Legacy, the game was announced yesterday during Sony’s PS5 Showcase. Fans of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding franchise can expect a fresh start as the game is set in late 1800s Hogwarts, way before the world meets the Golden Trio.
According to Warner Bros—who’s developing the game with Avalanche Studios and Portkey Games—Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world, single-player, action role-playing game. Aside from getting to experience the day-to-day of every witch and wizard with completely new characters, Players can also expect to venture out of the school in order to battle vicious trolls and fire-breathing dragons.
"The Portkey Games label gave us a unique opportunity to return to Hogwarts during a different era," writes the Playstation Blog. "Who was the headmaster? What challenges did students face? What influenced their society before Tom Riddle, before Newt Scamander? We embrace what we know and challenge ourselves to expand upon it."
Apart from PS5, Hogwarts Legacy will reportedly also be available on Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
