Remember High School Musical? Of course you do. Every millennial girl I know growing up had a crush on Zac Efron, we all wished we were Vanessa Hudgens, and we even secretly longed for Ashley Tisdale’s sparkly pink locker and the rest of her wardrobe.
Since the announcement of High School Musical: The Series, which is set to be released on Disney’s new streaming service Disney+, the news was met with mixed reactions and skepticism. Would it include the original cast? Was it going to be a 2019 reboot of the original?
Now, the first trailer has dropped and it’s nothing like anyone could have expected. Neither a sequel nor a remake, High School Musical: The Series is a mockumentary that takes place in our world, following the wacky teacher Miss Jenn and the students of East High School as they mount a stage production of High School Musical. As expected, comedy, meta references, and lots of teen drama ensue.
