Heo Sung Tae's claim to fame is the Netflix hit series Squid Game where he played Jang Deok-su. The drama paved the way in making him more known and it also increased his Instagram followers, which already reached almost two million. Despite this, Sung Tae has revealed that the popularity took a toll on his mental health.
The 44-year-old opened up about his struggles during the press con of his new drama, Bloody Heart, when he was asked about his onscreen daughter, Choi Ri. "After Squid Game, I actually had some sort of social anxiety disorder. My first scene with Choi Ri got canceled once because of that. I just couldn't pull it off well then. I felt terrible about that. I felt so sorry for Choi Ri."
Sung Tae further explained how he was able to get through his social anxiety thanks to the director of Bloody Heart. She gave him sound advice which helped him overcome this difficulty in his life. After their conversation, the actor said that he was able to enjoy his work more than before.
Previously, Sung Tae confessed that he had to gain weight for a short period of time to prepare for his role in Squid Game. He then had to lose 10 kilos for his next project which depleted his health. "The muscles on my calf tore and also my knees hurt," he said.
Sung Tae is booked this year with a handful of projects, including the movies Stellar, Boys, and Hunt, and the dramas Insider and Casino (with scenes that were filmed in the Philippines).
