Netflix’s latest feel-good film, Enola Holmes, has been on our radar for months. First of all, the lineup is spectacular. You have Millie Bobby Brown playing the spunky Enola, Henry Cavill as her detective brother Sherlock, Sam Claflin as their rigid brother Mycroft, and Helena Bonham Carter as their mother.
A-list stars aside, one thing that people are looking forward to in particular is Henry Cavill, the latest actor on the long list of those who have had the privilege of playing the legendary sleuth. However, it turns out that aside from the honor that comes from being Sherlock, one thing that drew Henry to the part was the fact that he would get to work with Millie Bobby Brown, an actress who he greatly admires and respects.
During a roundtable interview for the film, when asked how he came to play the role of Sherlock, Henry reveals, “Sherlock Holmes wasn't necessarily something which is on my radar to play because he's been played so well by so many actors over the years. But when I read the script, and I knew that Millie Bobby Brown was attached, and there was a host of other very, very talented actors attached as well, it was it was a very easy decision for me to make.”
Later on, he also reveals the reason why he had agreed to do a supporting role, given the fact that he's acted in a slew of lead roles prior to this. Lo and behold, he mentioned Millie Bobby Brown again!
“As far as playing a supporting role in this, I am a fan of Millie Bobby Brown's, I think she's extraordinary. I watched her stuff and then the opportunity to play in a movie supporting her character, especially with such a good script. And with such a fantastic cast, as well as a director like Harry Bradbury, it was, it was a no-brainer. For me really, it was a very easy decision to make,” Henry says.
Needless to say, Henry is a huge fan of Millie’s so we weren’t surprised when he shared some memorable moments the two shared on the set. In fact, they had so much fun that he felt like Millie was not only his sister onscreen but offscreen, too.
“Millie's a lot like a sister, she is a lot of fun. We had a lot of laughs together, I rolled my eyes, a lot of times… The makeup trailer was our sacred place of secrets. She would often talk about reality TV--and reality TV is something she is very, very well versed in. But I would often switch off when she was talking. And then she'd keep on just talking at me until she realized that I wasn't listening anymore.” So funny!
He also shares that Millie tried to get him to do “social media videos” like “dances,” and it’s most likely that those were TikTok videos. (Millie’s pretty active on TikTok!) Sadly, he had to draw the line on dancing. “Of course, I gave her a good strong no with that one. And so it was a lot like having a younger sister.” Guess we won't get to see Henry do a TikTok video (for now)!
Jokes aside, Henry repeatedly stressed that Millie is a talented actress with a bright future ahead of her. His praises were nonstop! “My experience working with Millie and the rest of the cast was absolutely fantastic. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with such powerhouses of the industry. And, Millie is already a powerhouse, but she's only going to get bigger and better. She is extraordinary. She's charismatic. She is someone who is truly going to make an impact on this industry,” he says of his experience working with the Stranger Things star.
Given Henry and Millie’s offscreen candor, we can’t wait for you to watch Enola Holmes and witness their onscreen fun yourself!
