There’s no stopping Heart Evangelista. From becoming the first Filipina to be part of Ferragamo’s global campaign just last June, the actress and artist is once again marking another first for Pinoys in 2021. ICYMI, Heart is now one of the the first Filipinos to be featured on Vogue Singapore!
The Kapuso star shared the milestone on her Instagram. Accompanied by photos taken by BJ Pascual, her post mentioned she’s “elated” to be part of the fashion title’s November-December Eternity issue. Coincidentally, fronting the bi-monthly release is Eternals and Crazy Rich Asians actress Gemma Chan. Remember when Heart auditioned for the latter movie a few years back?
Further described as a “luxury influencer, socialite and entrepreneur,” by Vogue SG, Heart’s feature article delved into her family, her passion for fashion and the arts, and, most importantly, her mental health.
In her interview, the multi-hyphenate candidly opened up about her experience with anxiety and depression, particularly when the symptoms crept up on her during Fashion Week. “All those emotions then started to manifest physically as numbness in her limbs and a painful condition called burning tongue syndrome, which she later realised was the result of pent-up anxiety,” described writer Sandhya Mahadevan.
Although she eventually got help for her condition, Heart is well aware not everyone suffering from mental health issues is as lucky or as well equipped as her. Because of this, the actress has made it her duty to talk about the importance of mental health awareness whenever she can. “I talk about it whenever I have a bigger platform to express myself. And why would I not, when taking control of things like I did can save someone’s life?” she told Vogue SG.
This isn’t the first time Heart’s been recognized by the famous fashion publication. Last 2019, the editors of Vogue US chose Heart to be part of Vogue 100, a curated list of stylish creatives around the globe who are all excelling in their respective fields. Heart also rubbed shoulders with Vogue.com Editor Chioma Nnadi and Vogue’s Experience Manager Ian Malone during her 2021 trip to the United States.

As mentioned, Heart wasn’t the only Filipina in this Vogue Singapore issue. Another one of our own creatives who landed in the magazine’s pages for the first time is Chi Gibbs. The musician and co-founder of Neon Island Clothing called the solo feature a “dream come true,” in her latest Instagram post. “What an honor. (BRB buying a billion copies and framing the page I'm in)" said Chi in her caption.
Vogue Singapore wrote, "Affectionately known as Chi, this designer, painter, and musician moved to Singapore with suitcases full of colour—from kaleidoscopic palettes to traffic-stopping Neon Island outfits."
