Remember when Harper’s Bazaar touted Heart Evangelista as one of the world’s real-life crazy rich Asians? Well, here’s more proof that she’s basically the Filipino version of Astrid Leong.

During an interview with Summit Media editors, when asked if she relates to any of the Crazy Rich Asians characters, Heart revealed that she once felt the same way as Gemma Chan’s character, Astrid Leong, who hid her expenses from her husband, Michael Teo. Believe it or not, sneaking around with her latest designer purchase was something Heart used to do as well whenever her husband, Sorsogon Governor Francis "Chiz" Escudero, wasn’t watching.

“I do relate a little bit to Gemma Chan when she was hiding her purchases, like when she bought her earrings and she hid it on top of the cabinet,” admitted Heart. In fact, she would even keep a smaller bag inside a much bigger one just so no one would suspect her growing collection. “I used to do that a lot with Chiz, until ever year I would have to sit down with him on the lawn table and I would have to lay out all my expenses and all my receipts, kasi doon hindi ko na matatago.”

But of course, those days are well behind Heart now that her husband helps her with her finances. “[I learned from Chiz] that cash is king,” said Heart during the same interview. “Even if it’s on sale—and I’m still learning this hard—it’s still expensive if you don’t need it.”
