Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg isn’t only changing the world, she’s also being pegged to set the record as the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient. After receiving the nomination for the prestigious award last March 2019, Greta is currently topping the booking charts with European betmakers like BetFair and LadBrokes setting their sights on the 16-year old’s win.
“It’s hard to argue against the impact Thunberg’s actions have had globally, and that’s reflected in her odds as the favorite.” Ladbrokes spokesperson Jessica O’Reilly told British news site Metro UK.
Over the past months, Greta has inspired millions of teens from all over the world to join in her impassioned clamor, asking world leaders to take concrete action against global warming. She’s gracefully weathered through nay-sayers and haters, including U.S. President Donald Trump, who mocked her for her fiery speech at the U.N. Climate Action Summit just last month where she called out those in power over their ignorance at the matter, and for ‘stealing’ the dreams and childhood of kids like her.
According to international news organization Reuters, more than 3.6 million people from over 169 countries have heeded Greta’s call and taken their plight to the streets as of August 2019, with the number only growing especially after learning of Greta’s fair chances at bagging the Nobel Prize. Weather she wins or not, her nomination alone is proof that no one is ever too young or too old to incite a significant impact in the world.
However, if Greta does win the award, which will be announced on December 2019, she’ll be joining the likes of Nelson Mandela, Marie Curie, and Malala Yousafzai, who’s currently the youngest Nobel Prize laureate after receiving the honor at 17.
