What’s in a name? Well, for these siblings, it involves two juggernaut rival fast food chains. Twins Jollibee and McDonald Pangindian (yep, you heard that right) recently went viral after netizens took notice of their distinctively humorous names. “I wouldn't be surprised to know if their parents' name is Mang Inasal and Goldilocks,” one Twitter user wrote.
The pair made rounds on social media after Mark Lester Andrei Cruzet, a family friend, proudly congratulated them on a Facebook post for recently graduating senior high school. According to Mark, Jollibee and McDonald are the children of his former school paper adviser in elementary. His teacher, of whom he calls Ma’am Evelyn, had once recounted the reason behind her twins’ unconventional names.
As it turns out, the idea came from her husband who wanted his kids to have “unique” names that were also easy to remember. “Andiyan agad yung natutuwa sila at madali nilang matandaan name nila," Evelyn had explained. And boy, were she and her husband right about that if the slew of amused social media reactions are any indication.
Nicknamed Jolly and McDo by their friends and family, the two revealed that they also have a cousin named Shakey. But more than their family’s clear penchant for fast food chains, Mark sought out to highlight their generous hearts. The proud kuya revealed that he treats Jollibee and McDonald as his siblings after having received unconditional support from their family in his own time of need, whether it involved financial matters or he simply needed a home to stay in.
“I am grateful dahil alam kong bukod sa sarili kong pamilya, may iba pa akong kikilalaning pamilya sa ibang tahanan. I am blessed beyond measure for finding a family away from our home,” Mark wrote. “Love ko 'tong family na ito. Dahil sa kanila, bida ang saya.”
