Gong Yoo is rumored to star in your latest K-drama obsession! The Goblin star is reported to be in talks with Netflix to take the lead role in The Sea of Silence. It's a sci-fi thriller series set in a dystopian future, based on a short film by Choi Hang Yong who will also direct the said series. What's more, Kingdom and Sense8 actress Doona Bae is also being considered as part of the cast!
In an article published by Korean news site Soompi, Gong Yoo’s agency, Management SOOP, has released a statement regarding the reports about his role for the new series. "It is true that Gong Yoo is reviewing an offer to star in The Sea of Silence. It is not confirmed," they said.
The Sea of Silence revolves around the earth's desertification which has caused food and water shortages. If Gong Yoo says yes to the project, he would take on the lead role as Yoon Jae, a soldier and the team leader of the Space and Aeronautics Administration. His team is tasked to gather mysterious samples from an abandoned research base on the moon. Who knows? They could bring backlife to the earth!
But before we jump into conclusions, let’s keep our fingers crossed for Gong Yoo to officially take on the role, marking his return to the k-drama world! We last saw the actor four years ago when he starred as the lonely goblin god, Kim Shin, in the hit series Goblin, together with Kim Go Eun. Now while we wait for the official news, you'll find us marathoning his previous k-dramas like Big and Coffee Prince on Netflix!
