Before exchanging the sacred I do’s, a soon-to-be-wedded couple is first faced with the precursor: the marriage proposal.
Whatever the scale, popping the big Q can be as significant as the wedding itself. But for those who opt for a larger-than-life occasion, an expert at the helm might just be the trick for the best results. For one couple of college sweethearts, the perfect person for the job is celebrity event stylist and 2022 Preview Most Influential 50 awardee Gideon Hermosa.
The groom-to-be Martin Vizconde recruited the famed stylist to set the picturesque backdrop for his proposal to longtime girlfriend Madeline Dela Cruz. In an interview with Preview, Gideon mentioned that his team was the future bride’s “dream stylist.”
Madeline, led to believe that they were to attend a formal event at a five-star hotel, was treated to a sweet surprise that’s one for the books instead. The hotel's rooftop was transformed into a cinematic landscape lit by a sea of lights, with red roses and lilacs arranged to form the shape of a heart.
“Our original plan was to have them surrounded by flowers, but since the location is not a garden, we considered putting in a heart-shaped arrangement instead,” Gideon revealed.
According to the event stylist, the most challenging parts of executing the grand-scale proposal were weather and venue restrictions. “The rain caused us to delay the proposal,” he said. “The presidential suite also has stricter rules and a narrower passageway compared to an event space or a ballroom. It took sixteen hours to execute everything. However, it was all worthwhile!”
Adding to the romantic aura were the blissful sounds of Side A’s Joey G and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, who serenaded the couple with a rendition of “Forevermore.” While Martin may have been the one to ask the question, the future groom was also taken by surprise upon seeing the final product.
“‘Wow’ was his very first word!” Gideon recalled. “Madeline was in disbelief. She immediately realized Martin would propose.”
As for the wedding plans, Gideon revealed that he’s a definite part of the couple’s upcoming nuptials. The sneak peek? “It's a really surreal setup—a combination of stars, florals, lines, and textures. The colors are dreamy, too.”
