Just when we think destination weddings outside the country are impossible right now, stylist to the stars Gideon Hermosa turns around and proves us wrong. In a recent wedding he did for newlyweds Pat Yap and Abby Go, Gideon managed to take the affair from the sunny seas of La Union to the brisky fjords of Iceland.
“We just showed our mood board via Zoom during the initial meeting, then when we had our one and only ocular at Aureo [Resort], he was able to imagine the whole [setup] in his mind,” Abby said in an exchange with Preview.
What Gideon envisioned was a majestic “Icelandic lagoon” built before glorious mirrored arches that reflected the skies above. In an Instagram post, the event stylist further explained, “I imagined the bride walking like an ethereal goddess atop the sea, graceful and calm as the water that surrounds her.”
According to Gideon, they’d initially decided that Abby would walk across the pool for her wedding march, but seeing as La Union was a visual feast on its own with a lot to offer, he decided to take it up a notch. The result? He and his team built a second pool from scratch so that, when attached to the resort’s original pool, it would extend to the shore!
“That’s how big this setup was. Our whole team worked until late hours to build this pool, pour in the water, and mount the bridge that connects to the main pool of the resort,” Gideon told Preview. “It was labor-intensive for sure but seeing as how everything turned out, it was worth it.”
Of course, what’s mimicking the cool, icy waters of Iceland without a cinematic mist suspended in the air? To achieve the full effect, Gideon made use of dry ice to do the trick. “It created these misty clouds that we wanted to achieve and in turn gave the pool that Iceland lagoon vibes. Sometimes our ideas just have a way of becoming a whole new concept in itself. That’s the result of working with nature and we love it!” said Gideon.
