The next fact that had viewers reeling? Gia Kim’s real age. Much like her castmates, little is known about the actress that can be Googled online, including her birthday. When originally searched, her birth month comes up as April, an error that Gia recently corrected during a podcast interview.
“We’re four years apart,” Gia said, referring to her age difference with her brother, Sang Heon Lee. “…and I wanna say this right now because the internet is getting my age like all over the place. Sang Heon is 27…I’m 30. I’m turning 31 this year. My birthday is not April. It’s November 4, 1992.”
Yep, you read that right. As it turns out, Gia is more than a decade older than her character, who’s supposedly around 16 on the show. The revelation left netizens in shock after watching Gia convincingly portray the look and feel of teen queen bee Yuri, with some users even asking her to “drop her skincare routine.” LOL!
Another user pointed out how refreshing it is to see an actress successfully jumpstart her career in her 30s. “It is so nice and comforting to see new actors and actresses debuting and gaining fame closer to my age vs super young teens,” read the full comment. FYI, prior to XO, Kitty, Gia had only been credited on IMDB for a short film in 2021.
Casting older actors for younger roles isn’t unusual in Hollywood and even in the K-industry. In fact, some commenters even compared her situation to that of Kim Tae Ri’s, who exceptionally played 18-year-old Na Hee-do at 31 on Twenty-Five Twenty-One.
