The pandemic lockdown has taken a toll on all of us in various aspects of our lives, and for some, it's physical. Gabbi Garcia shed light on this issue in a recent tweet of hers calling out body shamers.
The 22-year-old Kapuso actress started out her tweet by listing down the phrases she's been receiving about her body, "taba," "chubby," "buntis ka ba," and continued with, "omaygad can we all stop & take a break from body shaming??"
Gabbi then asked if she's not allowed to gain weight and to have a "beach body forever": "Bawal tumaba at mag-stress eat ng lockdown? Bawal maging bloated? Kailangan beach body forever?" Gabbi ended her tweet by wishing for character development in people who continue to body shame. "Grabe anong petsa na, guys, character development naman tayo diyan."
Gabbi has been vocal about body image for years now. In 2019, she answered an Instagram follower who asked if she had any stretch marks, and said, "You're not alone. Hindi kabawasan ng pagiging babae mo ang pagkakaroon ng stretch marks." Gabbi even encouraged other women to "go wear that swimsuit and flaunt your body!"
And in 2020, she spoke about her insecurities growing up morena. In an interview with BJ Pascual, Gabbi shared that she lost so many commercials to lighter-skinned models: "I was so insecure when I was a kid kasi laging iyong mga kinukuha, iyong mga may lahi [...]"
But her views changed when she entered showbiz in high school where she made it a point to never lighten her skin for any role or work opportunity: "Sabi ko, 'I will not change my skin color. I will love my skin. That's why everything that I do about, for example, for like brands for like shoots, talagang I maintain my skin color."
