Geraldine Roman is the First Transgender Elected in Congress Change definitely is coming.

As people dub leading presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte as the “Trump of the East,” the first district of Bataan, which includes the municipalities of Abucay, Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Morong, Orani, and Samal, just got themselves their own Harvey Milk with Geraldine Roman becoming the first transgender to be elected in the House of Representatives.

Despite her family’s strong political ties (both her parents previously held the same position) and her gender preference, Geraldine believes that none of these factors got in the way of her popularity with the people. She tells Reuters: “The ideal situation is where gender is not an issue and we can focus on the platform, the agenda, and the personality and the character of each candidate.” The partial and unofficial results as of May 10 reveal her as the leading candidate with 104,287-votes, putting her ahead of rival Danilo Malana who garnered a total of 63,881 votes.

Looks like change is definitely coming.
