Recognized for audio reporting, Pablo’s platform uncovers stories to examine how sports, money, and power intersect. The investigation that led to the award focused on the National Basketball Association (NBA), specifically examining the Los Angeles Clippers’ alleged evasion of the NBA’s salary cap.

Pablo reported that the team and its owner, Steve Ballmer, paid star player Kawhi Leonard millions of dollars above the league-imposed salary cap. Allegedly, this was done by having him sign a no-show $28 million endorsement deal with Aspiration, a California-based environmental company that Steve was a prominent investor of. Aspiration filed for bankruptcy in March 2025.

Following Pablo’s podcast, the NBA looked into the allegations, and the investigation is still ongoing. Steve, Kawhi, and the Clippers have denied the claims.
