There are several highly-anticipated K-dramas this year, and My Roommate Is a Gumiho is definitely on that list! The fantasy romance show is iQiyi’s first original drama, and it will star Girl’s Day’s Hyeri alongside Jang Ki Yong as its main couple. The pair is set to play two different individuals who cross paths after an unlikely incident brings them together.
If you’re dying to know more details about this K-drama, here are a few things you can look forward to:
1. It’s based on a webtoon.
The upcoming series is actually based on a popular webtoon of the same name. Prior to the announcement of the television show, fans of the original comic were already lobbying for it to be adapted onscreen. Thankfully, their prayers were eventually heard by tvN. “We are very happy to be bringing the popular webtoon My Roommate Is a Gumiho, which received many requests to be turned into a drama, to life,” said their production team in a statement. “Jang Ki Yong and Hyeri have been cast for the lead roles. Expectations are high because they are very synchronized with the characters they’ll play. Please look forward to My Roommate Is a Gumiho."

2. It has an interesting plot!
My Roommate Is a Gumiho is a fantasy drama centered around the concept of a gumiho or mythological nine-tailed fox. Shin Woo-yeo, a 999-year-old gumiho (Jang Ki Yong), is determined to turn himself into a human using a magical soul crystal. He’s nearly victorious in doing so up until female college student Lee Dam (Hyeri) accidentally swallows an all-important item, consequently putting her life at risk and putting a halt to his plans. In order to keep an eye on his marble, Woo-yeo suggests that he and Lee Dam start living together. Will their forced cohabitation blossom into something more? Guess we’ll just have to tune in to find out.

3. It features a young, promising cast.
Apart from Hyeri and Ki Yong, K-drama fans will be glad to know that the series will also reunite Start-Up alums Kang Han Na and Kim Do Wan, who are set to play lovers in the story! Joining them to round up the team are Bae In Hyuk, Park Kyu Hye, Choi Woo Seong, and Kim Do Yeon.

4. It has some pretty skilled writers and a director spearheading the production.
The K-series will be written by Baek Sun Woo and Choi Bo Rim, who were responsible for penning the immensely popular romcom What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, which was also coincidentally based on a webtoon. Additionally, at the show's helm is director Nam Sung Woo, who's best known for his work in Ki Yong's 2019 action thriller Kill It.
5. Its first teaser just came out last week!
