The secret to happiness isn't what you think it is. Love? Maybe. It's not money either. (Though we'd be lying if we said it doesn't totally matter.) But, it's actually pretty easy and you can start improving your days and being happier by just… plain exercising.
A study, published in The Lancet, says that being active does more good to your mental health than your economic status. After gathering the data of 1.2 million individuals, researchers found that people who exercised had 43.2 percent better days than those who did not.
"Exercise is known to be associated with reduced risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes, but its association with mental health remains unclear," researchers said. "We aimed to examine the association between exercise and mental health burden in a large sample, and to better understand the influence of exercise type, frequency, duration, and intensity."
Sure, science might have recently proven that money can buy happiness. But, if exercise can do us all good physically and mentally—even just a little—then it doesn't hurt to be more active.
You know what this means, time to start being more religious with that daily workout.
