Yasmien Kurdi and Jennylyn Mercado rose to prominence in 2003, when they joined the first season of GMA’s competition show, StarStruck. During the reality talent search, the contestants showcased their talents through weekly challenges in acting, singing, and other disciplines. Jennylyn was eventually crowned the female winner, with Yasmien finishing as her first runner-up. Since then, both have established themselves as two of the network’s brightest stars.

In a recent interview, Yasmien revealed that she and Jennylyn used their talents to take on projects—or in Filipino terms, mga raket—that gave them opportunities to earn extra income before becoming the in-demand celebrities they are today.

In Episode 10 of Chika Cart, which aired on October 9, the hosts discussed ghost singers. For the uninitiated, a ghost singer provides vocals for another performer without being publicly credited or seen. This practice may be used in films, television, and live performances, typically when a song requires vocal abilities outside a celebrity’s range. As the term suggests, a ghost singer is usually unidentified or undisclosed to the public.
She also shared that they would alter their voices when working as ghost singers to help conceal their identities and better match the voices of the celebrities they were singing for. Yasmien then whispered the names of some of these celebrities to the show’s hosts, with host Baninay Bautista hinting that they were “sobrang sikat.”
