Vice Ganda has made a career out of making people smile. From her humble beginnings to now being one of the country's brightest stars, the 50-year-old is best associated with her comedic chops and overflowing charisma.

However, there was a time when Vice herself was hesitant to flash a smile. In a recent episode of her noontime show It's Showtime, the lead host recounted how she used to feel insecure about her teeth. To address this, she got veneers, which have done a great deal to boost her self-esteem.

"These teeth, they are healing my inner child," Vice tells viewers on a broadcast of It's Showtime last August 12. She narrates how they used to be her biggest insecurity, particularly because of a gap on one side of her teeth. According to her, this was quite noticeable during her early days as a guest host on the now-defunct GMA programs SOP and SIS.

"Kasi naaalala ko nung bata ako, ang pangit talaga ng ngipin ko. Alam mo, kahapon naiyak talaga ako nung nakita ko siya," she shared. "Kasi, nagsimula ako sa showbiz, kung makikita niyo yung mga dati kong videos sa SOP at saka sa SIS, may bungal ako dito, may bakante ako dito."

When she started appearing in ABS-CBN projects, she still struggled to show off her teeth. "Tapos nung nasa Maging Sino Ka Man ako, 'yung teleserye namin nila Anne [Curtis] dati, 'yung gitna ko, may sira," she recalls. Even when the job required her to speak or laugh out loud, she would resort to keeping her mouth minimally open to avoid flashing her broken teeth.

"Kasi insecurity ko talaga siya. Pag nagsasalita ako, hindi ko masyadong binubuka 'yung bibig ko," she candidly said.

In 2022, Vice underwent veneer application with Urban Smiles Dental Clinic to permanently fix her teeth. Through a vlog uploaded on her YouTube channel, Vice had the veneers bonded to her teeth, effectively making them appear whiter and more properly structured.

Kasi ang concern ko lagi, ‘pag nagpapa-picture, napapansin nu’ng mga followers ko ‘yun, parang tabingi ‘yung smile ko kasi 'yung bite parang medyo ngiwi," she explains.

In the video, Dr. Ralph Figaroa Delas Alas, the primary doctor and founder of Urban Smiles, also divulged that the procedure costs about half a million pesos. Through veneers—which are thin, custom-made laminates meant to resemble one's actual teeth—the comedienne is now able to confidently flash her smile.
