The past season of Pinoy Big Brother proved to be one of the most inescapable in the show's history. Dubbed the Celebrity Collab edition, the series gathered stars from both ABS-CBN and GMA, pairing them up in duos to vie for the “Big Winner” title. Among those selected from the Kapuso side were Cebuanas Shuvee Etrata and AZ Martinez. Hailing from the same region, the two were already acquainted before entering the house, having previously competed against each other in a pageant around three years ago.

Shuvee Etrata and AZ Martinez Both Competed in the Hiyas ng Pilipinas 2022 Pageant
Before they were housemates, the Bisaya beauties were actually co-candidates in the 2022 edition of Hiyas ng Pilipinas. Shuvee represented Bantayan Island in Cebu, and finished as a Top 15 finalist. Prior to this competition, she also joined Mutya ng Pilipinas Cebu in 2019, where she represented the municipality of Santa Fe.
Initially, Shuvee aspired to become a doctor but chose to pursue show business instead, as it offered a quicker way to support her family (she’s the eldest of nine siblings, by the way!). In a viral Facebook post, she was quoted as telling her mother that joining PBB was her last shot at the industry—and if things didn’t work out, she’d return home to continue her medical studies.
Suffice it to say, with legions of fans rallying behind her after the show, things worked in Shuvee’s favor. She currently plays a supporting role in Sang'gre: Encantadia Chronicles, her biggest on-screen gig to date.

Meanwhile, AZ participated in Hiyas ng Pilipinas as a delegate of Tacloban City, where her parents are originally from. The 20-year-old emerged victorious, bagging the Elite World 2022 crown. Her next win arrived when she represented the Philippines at Miss Summit International 2023, when she bested candidates from all over the world.
In a recent interview with Boy Abunda, AZ—who placed fourth with her Kapamilya counterpart River Joseph—expressed that she tried out pageantry on a whim. At the time, she was still based in Cebu and looking for ways to put her abilities to good use. Despite her winning streak, she chose to pursue an acting career as a Sparkle talent, saying it’s her true passion.
