If you’ve been following the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (VSFS) for years, you’ve probably noticed the absence of several OG Angels at the most recent show. Among them was Dutch model Romee Strijd.
Romee first walked the VSFS runway in 2014 and became an Angel the following year. She continued to grace the runway annually until 2018, before the show went on hiatus in 2019. When it returned in 2024, Romee had already been focused on building a family with her husband, Laurens van Leeuwen, with whom she shares two children. She aimed to make her VSFS comeback this year, but her participation remained “a question mark” until just days before the show.
Romee Strijd Airs Frustration on VSFS 2026 Rejection Process
Days before the VSFS 2026, Romee posted a TikTok addressing questions about whether she would walk the show this year. “I wanted to do the show again, even after [having] kids. It felt like the right timing,” she said. She revealed that she traveled to New York in the first week of September for casting, as a new team is now running the show. “I thought I was gonna know soon after if I was gonna do the show or not, but I didn’t hear anything for weeks, and I think it was some sort of ‘maybe’ list.” More than a month had passed since her audition, and she still hadn’t heard back.
Romee described the experience as a mental roller coaster, as she continued training despite being unsure of her place in the show. In the video, posted last Monday, she said, “The show is on Sunday. And they haven’t canceled, they haven’t confirmed.” Although she expected to receive a no, she continued training because “you’ll never know.” She added, “In fashion and in modeling, it’s all very last-minute. I’m trying to be prepared and keep myself mentally positive ‘cause it’s been, mentally, a bit exhausting.” She ended the video by reiterating that she would still love to walk at the VSFS 2026.
In a separate video, Romee shared an update after speaking with her agency, International Management Group (IMG). “It’s a no, which is fine, because rejection is part of modeling and that’s totally fine,” she began. According to her agency, the reason given was, “They thought you wouldn’t fit in the show this year.” When Romee asked for clarification, they told her, “You were already released.” For Romee, this was “a completely different story than what they were telling me the last couple weeks.”
She revealed that the Friday before her update, casting director Piergiorgio Del Moro had responded to IMG via email, saying, “Regards to Romee. We’re not there yet, but we’ll let you know before the weekend.” Romee expressed her frustration, saying, “The whole story doesn’t sum up, which makes me feel even [more] horrible than not getting the show.” She added that she had devoted much of her mental space and energy to making things happen, only to be “kept in the dark.”
“I don’t feel supported by my agency, I feel like I don’t have the straight story. Just be honest, just tell me, and I can go on with my life and let it go,” she said tearfully. “It’s fine if it’s a closed chapter, I just would love to know. And now they kept me in the dark, not knowing for so long, then I got a lot of mental stress from it.”
She ended her update by stating, “I don’t think I’m gonna cast anymore in the future ‘cause I don’t like how the whole process went. I don’t like the way I was treated, and I would love to keep the positive memories of VS.”
On the day of the show, Romee posted an Instagram Story featuring a photo of herself from 2018, when she wore the special Shooting Star look adorned with more than 125,000 Swarovski crystals. “Thank you for all the love these past few days. I’ve said what I wanted to share, and I’m ready to look forward,” she wrote. She continued, “VS will always hold so many special memories for me.”
Victoria’s Secret Responds to Romee Strijd’s Claims
A spokesperson from Victoria’s Secret provided a statement to Vanity Fair, which read, “We can confirm that Victoria's Secret and [casting director] Piergiorgio Del Moro communicated directly to her representation and formally released her from the casting process on September 6,” the week of her casting.
The statement continued, “While we cannot speak to the communications between talent and representation, Victoria's Secret values and respects all talent partners—past, present, and future.”
