The Devil Wears Prada 2 is peppered with many celebrity cameos. This includes a special appearance by Lady Gaga, which her fans first sniffed out a few months ago when they spotted Mother Monster in Milan during fashion week. The same location where The Devil Wears Prada 2 was filming. Now, we finally know who to thank for getting Gaga in the movie. None other than Meryl Streep herself.
Meryl Streep Asked Lady Gaga to Appear in “The Devil Wears Prada 2"
According to reports, Meryl and Gaga first met as guests on SNL’s 50th Anniversary special. The two became fast friends and agreed to work together in the future. Aware of their newfound relationship, director David Frankel took advantage a few months later and asked Meryl to call up her “new friend.”
Meryl talked about it further in another interview, recounting how she phoned Gaga while the pop star was in the middle of her Mayhem World Tour. “I just said, ‘Would you do this? Because it’s going to be really good.’ And she said, ‘Yeah!’ Just like that,” said Meryl. Gaga happily accepted the offer, and the rest you’ll see in the movie if you haven’t already.

During the same interview, Meryl and her co-star Emily Blunt were all praise for Gaga and her work ethic. “She’s on her world tour, which lasted a year, playing to 75,000 people in a stadium and just flew off and did us,” shared Meryl. Emily added, "I think she’s a creative storm. I think she’s amazing.”
Mother Monster doesn’t just show up in the movie for a split second either. Without spoiling you any further, her character turns out to harbor a tense history with Runway’s Editor-in-Chief Miranda Priestly.
Gaga plays an important part in Runway’s big Milan event amid budget cuts for their fashion show.
Just like how it happened in real life, Nigel asks Miranda to call Gaga for a favor. The ice queen refuses at first, hinting at some prior animosity, but eventually relents. “We thought we’d make up this persona for Gaga that there’s this terrible history, and she’s such a diva that Miranda can’t stand her, and she loved it!” David told Variety.
Apart from her brief appearance, Gaga also wrote and recorded three new songs for the film’s soundtrack. There’s a duet with Doechii titled Runway, Shape of a Woman, and Glamorous Life.

Jam’s way of exploration is by reading and writing. She hopes to always be lost in words and, occasionally, a good podcast.
