It’s truly Pride Month when the gays keep winning! KATSEYE’s queer count is officially up to two after Megan Skiendiel recently came out as bisexual. The global idol giddily opened up about her sexuality during a livestream on the fan platform Weverse.

Speculation on Megan’s sexuality had been making rounds since last month when fans suspected she mouthed "Yes" in response to a comment asking if she was bi in one of her live broadcasts. She quashed any doubts on June 6 when she finally announced it loud and proud beside her fellow queer KATSEYE member, Lara Raj.

“Guys, I’m coming out. I’m bisexual,” she said after receiving encouragement from Lara who also revealed her bisexuality last March. The two burst into jumps and giggles, followed by Megan admitting, “I'm like scared now,” before laughing off her nerves.
While KATSEYE is an international act, the group is still heavily associated with the K-pop scene in notoriously conservative South Korea where only a few idols have explicitly come out as queer. FYI, KATSEYE is contracted under a partnership between Korean entertainment juggernaut Hybe and the American record label Geffen. The group promotes their new songs on Korean music programs and occasionally even appears on their variety shows.

In a past interview with Teen Vogue, the 19 year old admitted that she was still in the process of discovering herself. “I don't even really truly know who I am yet. That's a big reason why I'm still experimenting with everything, like my style, my hair, my makeup,” she said. “It's fun, but at the same time, it is scary just knowing that everyone's watching. And especially me, I struggle with anxiety, so I'm like, ‘Oh, I wonder if people like this or not.’ … it's nice to figure out what I like and who I want to be and who I am."

A Korean netizen translated the clip of her coming out on X. It’s since garnered over six million views and positive reactions from Korean users congratulating Megan. Other Korean onlookers took the opportunity to lament not being able to come out as freely as the KATSEYE member considering the state of the LGBTQ community in their country.

“Even though there’s no possibility for me… just watching women come out happily makes me happy,” read one comment. “I hope people in the world won’t be afraid to come out because of KATSEYE,” said another.
Megan’s coming out no doubt required a lot of bravery on her part. Luckily she had Lara’s support during the vulnerable moment. The latter has been lauded for her courage as well following her own coming out. Back in May, she was honored with the Blooming Impact Award at the LA LGBT Center's Golden Hour event.

In her speech, she mentioned dealing with the complexity and fear of understanding her queerness along with the struggle to say it out loud. "I just want to say to all of you that are living your truth now, I understand how much courage it takes, and I see your bravery,” said Lara. “I know what it’s like to be very afraid and live in that fear, but now that I’m older and I understand it, I want you to know that I will continue to speak up for us as a Brown queer girl.”
